Green lights for wet cyclists in Groningen

Groningen city council is to install sensors in some traffic lights which will reduce waiting times for cyclists in the rain and snow, Nos television reports.

Tests with the sensors at one junction have been deemed a success by both cyclists and other road users and now the idea is to be rolled out to other parts of the city, the broadcaster says.
Once the sensors are installed, the lights in special bike lanes will go green more quickly if a cyclist is caught by a red light during bad weather.
