Yet another fire alarm in Schiphol rail tunnel

Trains to Amsterdam Schiphol airport were again cancelled for a time on Tuesday morning when the tunnel leading to the airport was closed following a fire alarm.

The Schiphol tunnel was closed twice on Monday, once when a train driver reported seeing smoke and the second time after a driver reported smelling smoke.
The cause was found to be dust dislodged during work being carried out in the tunnel, the fire service said.
Track operator ProRail is taking measures to solve the problem. It is sending safety experts to ride with train drivers to find out exactly what they are seeing in the tunnel. It also plans to walk the tunnel to see if it can find a definite reason for the alarms.
