Van der Vaart, De Jong out of Oranje for World Cup qualifiers

National football coach Louis van Gaal has left Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong, Ibrahim Afellay and Gregory van der Wiel out of his squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Turkey and Hungary.


‘They have not played much and are busy with their new clubs,’ Van Gaal told a news conference on Friday. ‘I need players who can focus completely on Turkey and Hungary. They will be difficult matches.’
Jordy Clasie and Daryl Janmaat join Oranje for the first time while Twente’s Leroy Fer moves up to the core team. Fer scored twice to help Twente through to the group’s phase of the Europa League on Thursday night.
