Lawyer wants to stop the party for Dutch Olympians

Thursday 09 August 2012

A lawyer in Den Bosch is going to court on Friday to stop the welcome home party for the Dutch Olympic team on Monday.

Hugo van Steijn has his office on the Stationsplein in Den Bosch where the team will arrive by train from London. Preparations for their welcome are already underway, say press reports.

Van Steijn says the noise is already affecting his concentration. 'I shall certainly have to write off Monday as a working day,' he said.

A council spokesman said it is impossible to please everyone. 'We gave the licence for the festivities after talking to everyone affected. After all, it is not going to go on for long.'

Would you mind the noise in a case like this? Let us know on the comment form below.

I am sure that he could join in the celebrations for a part of Monday. I am sure he cant have that much on his plate ?

He can't take Monday off to go somewhere else? With all the mobile technology available, he could still conduct business elsewhere IF he really wanted to... I suspect this has more to do with his being a bitter old fart, however.

Unbelievable! What is this guy's problem? Not exactly a good advert for his business. Has he tried to stop Sinterklaas, Queen's Day and other celebrations. He should be ashamed at not welcoming the Dutch Sporting heroes. It only happens once every 4 years!

What a miserable, self-centred little man, who has forgotten the joy of celebration (even lawyers must win sometimes).

Take the day off: alternatively, it won't kill you to work from home with a laptop: other professionals manage it!

I'm not Dutch, but these sportsmen and women have put their heart and souls into training and competing and, medals or not, they deserve a party on their return.

I would not mind at all. In fact I think it is great to welcome home those who have honored our country in a way or another. Rather, what I always find strange is great welcome parties when we have not won or performed exceptionally (which I think is the case of these olympics compared to other countries)

We never have to look far for a party pooper!
If you don't want the noise don't take an office on the stationsplein.

Of course I wouldn't mind! What kind of person would take issue with this joyous and proud national moment? This fellow sounds like a real stick in the mud. It's sad that he can't support the Olympic athletes for even one day, which happens once every four years. He should be ashamed of himself.

They deserve the 'welcome back' party, they have represented themselves and their country proudly. From a non-Dutch.

Stop crying and use earplugs.

flippin heck, what a bah-humbug - he should be proud of the team, they are doing a great job in London! It's only a few hours out of his day and surely he could work from home of it was THAT bad!

So the noise for a couple of hours will affect his concentration too much to work, yet he has enough time to go to court to try and stop the party..?? Something's wrong with this logic...

The brave Dutch olympians have sacrificed many days, months and years to represent their country. All you are asked is to give up a few hours to allow a celebration of their achievements. Your complaint is the epitomy of petty-mindedness. Shame on you sir !

What a grumpy old man... There's always one!

By Jayo | 10 August 2012 11:58 AM

Perhaps the time he wasted on trying to stop the celebration should be spent on actually getting some work then... well... obviously he has nork to do!!! What a waste of time! its just a cry for some fame!

He can work from home, like we all do at times, if he doesn't want to join the party.bThis attorney probably has not much work anyway if he has time to go to court for something like this.
