Infrastructure budget cuts will damage Holland’s economy

Pushing through the planned €200m cuts to the infrastructure budget will sound the death knell for the Netherlands’ economy, three organisations said on Monday.

The cuts form part of the austerity package agreed earlier this year by a five-party coalition formed after the government fell.
The construction sector organisation Bouwend Nederland, the employers’ organisation VNO-NCW and the small businesses association MKB said cutting investment in infrastructure will have a detrimental effect on the country’s competitive position.
The Netherlands is already on the bottom of the ladder when it comes to infrastructure, they said.
The organisations want the government to withdraw the cuts and invest an extra €100m.
