Children’s ombudsman sets up hotline for kids with no school

The children’s ombudsman Marc Dullaert has launched a special alarm line for youngsters without a school to register their problems, news agency Novum reports.

Thousands of children, mainly with learning difficulties or chronic illnesses, are currently home when they should be at school because there are no educational establishments to take them.
Dullaert said he hopes the hotline will lead to a better picture about the problems facing some parents in finding suitable schools for their children.
Earlier this month the courts gave the green light to a sailing trip by two severely dyslexic brothers who have not been accepted by any school because of their learning problems. The boys, aged 13 and 15, plan to sail to various European ports to raise awareness of their cause.
