The Dutch get married later

The average age of a Dutch man when he gets married for the first time is 37, while women are almost 34 years old, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS quoted by the Telegraaf.

In 2000, men were aged 34 on average when they tied the knot, while women were 31.
The main reason for the later age is that couples tend to live together for some time before making their relationship formal. In addition, registered partnerships form a viable alternative to marriage for many people – around 10,000 couples a year opt for this, the CBS said.
In 2000, there were 88,000 marriages, but in 2011 there were 71,000, the CBS said.
