State pension could be means-tested, says pensioner party leader

The state pension system (AOW) could eventually become means-tested, so that wealthy pensioners would receive less cash, Henk Krol, leader of the 50Plus party, says in an interview with Friday’s Volkskrant.

Pensioners with considerable private pensions and other capital should also be required to do more to help the less well off, Krol said.
‘I want to help people who are squeezed out,’ Krol said. ‘And people who are prosperous should help in that, even if they are older.’
According to opinion polls, the party is on target to win two seats in the September general election.
