Occupy Utrecht calls it a day after tents are slashed

Protesters at the Occupy camp in Utrecht dismantled their camp on Monday evening after a number of tents were slashed with a knife by a ‘mentally-unstable homeless man’, local television reports.

The protesters say it took police over two hours to respond to their calls for help after the man threatened them and went on the rampage.
Earlier in the day, the city’s mayor Aleid Wolfsen said he wanted to call a halt to the camp in the city centre and had found a legal way to end the protest.
Earlier attempts to force an end to the protests were rejected in court.
The protestors said their decision to go is not related to the mayor’s statement.
The Hague
Meanwhile, according to the Telegraaf, the Occupy The Hague camp has been taken over by homeless people who have accused the protesters of squandering cash donations on ‘holidays and cars’.
The protestors have made a formal complaint to the police, who say they are powerless to expel the interlopers because the camp is on public ground.
