Few foreigners live in the Netherlands

The Netherlands has one of the lowest percentages of non-Dutch nationals living within its borders in the EU, according to new figures from the EU statistics office Eurostat.


Some 4% of the people living in the Netherlands is a foreign national, compared with 8.8% in Germany, 6.2% in Denmark and 10.6% in Belgium. Only Finland and eastern and central European countries have fewer foreigners, the Eurostat figures show.
Of the 673,000 non-Dutch nationals, 334,500 come from another EU member state, accounting for just 2% of the total population. The EU average is 2.5%. In total, some 13 million EU citizens live in another member state.
