Historic building destroyed in fire, two dead

A fire in the centre of Amsterdam on Sunday morning destroyed an historic building and caused two deaths.

The fire broke out in the building early on Sunday morning. When the fire brigade arrived, they found one person with burns on the pavement, who died on the way to hospital, and another with slight injuries.
The building is so badly damaged that it is liable to collapse at any moment, making a search for more bodies difficult. Nevertheless, another body was found in the house on Monday morning, the police say.
It has now been reported by local tv station AT5 that the two dead are a man and a woman. The man jumped out of the window and the woman was engulfed in the flames.
Part of the building has now been demolished so police can investigate in safety.
