Clean drinking water could become unaffordable

Providing clean drinking water is becoming increasingly difficult and more expensive, water company organisation Vewin said on Tuesday.

Underground activity is growing which means keeping ground water clean is much harder, Vewin director Theo Schmitz told the Telegraaf.
Damage to the areas where tap water is pumped out and to the pipes will lead to the need for expensive repair work which could lead to drinking water becoming unaffordable, he told the paper.
The Netherlands has the cleanest tap water in the world, but Schmitz questions how long this will last with so many construction, telecom, oil and gas companies drilling and boring in the ground.
