A 68-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in Saturday’s crash between two trains close to Amsterdam’s central station, city council officials said on Sunday afternoon.

Dozens of people were injured when an intercity train from Den Helder to Nijmegen ploughed into the front of a slow train to Uitgeest shortly after 18.00 hours. At least 16 people remain in hospital, the Telegraaf said on Sunday evening.
Rail services to and from Amsterdam’s central station began returning to normal on Sunday afternoon.
Black day
Rail chiefs told a news conference on Sunday afternoon they are doing all they can to find out why the two trains were on the same track. ‘It is a black day for the railways,’ said Marion Gout, head of the track operator ProRail.
‘Two trains colliding on the same track is a nightmare,’ Bert Meerstadt, of passenger service arm NS said.
Both trains have black boxes which should give more clues as to the cause of the crash, rail officials said.
