Justice minister Ivo Opstelten said on Tuesday he is planning to meet police union representatives on Wednesday evening to discuss their demands for an improved pay deal and agreement on early retirement.

Opstelten was speaking in the corridors of the parliament building in The Hague, where he was asked about reports the police are planning not to work at pop festivals and sporting events during the summer.
Police unions are angry at the lack of response to their strike action so far, which includes rolling closure of police stations in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.
Opstelten told the press he has something to bring to the table, but did not say what that would be. But he pointed out that his position ‘is not set in concrete’.
