Swiss interest in Nedcar plant

A Swiss company is interested in taking over the Limburg car-maker Nedcar, following the announcement that the Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi is to pull-out next year, the FNV Bondgenoten union said on Tuesday.

The union’s Henk van Rees said he is pleased with the interest from Q-PM but wants to study their plans. Q-PM makes staggered engines, which operate with rotors rather than cylinders.
CEO Geoffrey Hunziker told the Financieele Dagblad that all 1,500 workers at the plant will keep their jobs if the take-over goes ahead.
He also said he will approach private investors in Switzerland to finance the take-over. ‘There is no lack of money. Financing the operation is the easiest part,’ he told the paper.
Mitsubishi Motors is stopping all car production in Europe next year.
The economic affairs ministry declined to comment on the Swiss approach, saying several companies were interested in taking over the Limburg plant.
