A large majority of the European parliament is poised to support a motion calling on the Dutch government to distance itself from the PVV’s website to collect complaints about central and eastern Europeans, news agency ANP reports.

In addition, the parliament wants the European Council of Ministers and government leaders to condemn the website for being an ‘insult’ to European values and principles.
The website undermines freedom of movement and encourages discrimination, the motion, which will be put to the vote on Thursday, states.
Taking sides
According to ANP, it is uncommon for the European parliament to take issue with a single country. The parliament also wants the Dutch government to investigate whether the website is contributing to an increase in racial hatred and discrimination.
Rutte has so far refused to condemn the website, arguing it is a matter for the PVV alone.
However, MEPs have pointed out Rutte’s minority cabinet has a formal alliance with the PVV on the economy and immigration. Rutte had been urged to attend the session to put forward his point of view, but was ‘too busy’, Nos television reported.
Criminal
The website has already been condemned by European commissioners, employers’ leaders, ambassadors and migrant labour groups.
It places newspaper headlines such as ‘Eastern Europeans, increasingly criminal’ alongside a complaints hotline.
The PVV says the aim is to gain insight into ‘problems caused by central and eastern Europeans in terms of crime, alcoholism, drugs use, dumping household waste and prostitution’.
