Deloitte Nederland boss steps down over financial interests

The new head of Deloitte Nederland stepped down on Monday after it emerged he had financial stakes in firms which are audited by the accountancy group.

A routine internal compliance review found Piet Hein Meeter, who took the job at the beginning of this year, had infringed the firm’s independence rules.
The financial sector regulator AFM was informed and after consultation with the supervisory board, Meeter resigned with immediate effect.
Nevertheless, he not been involved in any decision-making concerning the companies, nor was he involved in auditing the accounts, Deloitte said in a statement.
