‘Serious interest’ in taking over Nedcar operations

A number of parties have come forward as potential buyers of the Nedcar car-making plant in Limburg, which is set for closure next year, economic minister Maxime Verhagen told MPs on Wednesday evening.

He said the cabinet is prepared to support the Nedcar operation for a time, if a serious buyer comes forward, but first clarity is needed about Mitsubishi’s plans.
Verhagen is travelling to Japan next Monday to meet Mitsubishi executives and stress the importance of a good social plan for the 1,500 staff if closure is inevitable, he said.
Mitsubishi said earlier this month it is planning to stop producing the Colt and Outlander in Born at the end of this year.
