Rising healthcare costs don’t lead to economising on insurance

The rising cost of health insurance has not prompted people to look for cheaper alternatives or cut down on their cover, according to research by broadcaster Nos.

The number of people with top-up insurance policies has only gone down by 1% while just 2% to 3% of policy holders have cut down on their dental insurance.
But at the same time, top-up policies have become 8% more expensive on average, Nos says, quoting research by Mercer.
The government decides what is covered by the basic policy, allowing health insurers to offer extra policies for other care. This year, for example, the government removed help for people who want to stop smoking and improve their diet from the basic package and cut physiotherapy provisions.
