PostNL sees volumes decline but revenues stable

Postal delivery group PostNL saw volumes fall 7% in 2011 but sales were stable at some €4.3bn, the company said on Monday.

PostNL reported net profit of €1.7bn, due to the sale of its express delivery arm TNT Express last year. Operating profit was €417m.
TNT Express is currently the subject of a €9 per share takeover offer from UPS.
The decline in addressed mail volumes was lower than had been expected, said chief executive Harry Koorstra in a statement.
The company is also in talks with unions on changing the PostNL collective labour agreement on pensions, because the current situation is ‘not sustainable,’ Koorstra said.
