Dutch documentary wins prestigious award

The Dutch documentary Justice for Sergei won the Justice prize awarded by the Cinema for Peace organisation during a gala evening held in Berlin on Monday evening.

The film, about the Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitski, was made by Hans Hermans and Martin Maat.
Sergei Magnitski uncovered the largest tax fraud in Russian history in which staff at the Russian internal affairs ministry had embezzled €175m.
Magnitski was himself then arrested on charges of tax fraud and died in prison in 2009 under suspicious circumstances.
Cinema for Peace is an organisation that supports socially important films and has Michail Gorbatsjov and George Clooney in its committee.
This is the second award the film has won. In 2011 it took first prize at the Kiev documentary film festival.
