Teachers to strike on January 28

Teachers in at least 20 secondary schools will strike on January 28 to underline their opposition to new laws being brought in by education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt.

In addition, teachers in around 250 schools around the country have indicated they will take some form of action in support of the strike, according to teaching union AOb.
In particular, teachers are opposed to increasing the number of teaching hours to 1,040, which has majority support in parliament. They want the number to remain at 1,000 to prevent pupils having to stay in school when they have no lessons.
Teaching staff are also unhappy about Van Bijsterveldt’s plans to freeze salaries and to make cuts to special education.
