Labour MP to lead FNV union revamp

Labour MP Jetta Klijnsma is to lead a five-strong team to revitalise the FNV trade union federation, which was hit by infighting between its 19 member unions last year.

The new-look union has been dubbed De Nieuwe Vakbeweging (the new union movement). The team hopes to finalise its plan for reforms by May 1 and conclude the transformation process before the summer.
The federation has been divided since its leader, Agnes Jongerius, voted in favour of measures to reform the pension system, much to the fury of the three biggest member unions: the general workers union Bondgenoten, civil service union Abvakabo and construction workers union FNV Bouw.
The other main Dutch union federation, the CNV, has also been hit by divisions over the pension deal and police union ACP is planning to pull out.
