KPN ‘refuses’ to block file-sharer The Pirate Bay

KPN is refusing to stop its internet customers accessing file-sharing service The Pirate Bay until appeals against the blockade have been heard, website Webwereld reports.

Authors’ rights lobby group Stichting Brein had urged KPN, UPC and other internet providers to block The Pirate Bay after a court ordered XS4All and Ziggo to do so earlier this month.
A KPN spokesman told the NRC Brein had written a letter urging the company to stop allowing access to the file-sharing website. He said KPN does not have a position on the issue but first wants to wait for the XS4All appeal before taking a decision. XS4All is owned by KPN.
Both Ziggo and XS4All will stop The Pirate Bay from reaching their subscribers on February 1.
