Strong winds lead to Schiphol delays, some rail disruption

The strong winds led to cancellations and lengthy delays at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport on Wednesday, with some lasting up to two hours, Nos television said.

Several landing strips were closed because of the strong cross winds and at least 20 flights, mainly to European destinations, were scrapped. According to the KNMI weather bureau, winds of up to 100 kph can be expected on the coast.
There has also been some disruption to train travel, Nos said. In particular services between Utrecht and Veenendaal were hit when a tree came down on the line.
The KNMI said the storm was expected to pick up again on Wednesday evening and the weather will remain very unsettled for the next few days.
