Oranje draws Group of Death in European Cup

The Netherlands has drawn Germany, Denmark and Portugal for the group round of next year’s European Cup. The group was instantly branded the Group of Death by football pundits.

The draw means former champions Oranje, Denmark and Germany have been pitted against 2004 runners-up Portugal and, says website Uefa.com, all four coaches agree that it is probably the toughest of the four sections.
‘This is the most difficult group and an enormous challenge,’ Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk told reporters.

‘It is the toughest group. The Netherlands and Portugal have world-class players. We can look forward to very interesting matches,’ Germany coach Joachim Loew was quoted as saying by German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel told website Uefa.com, that all three opponents in Group B are ‘fantastic’.
‘Overall, it is clear what we have to do. For a football player, but also for our fans, these are obviously fantastic matches,’ Van Bommel said. ‘Despite this being a tough group, I have full faith that, with the support of our loyal fans and with the qualities of our squad, we will reach the next round.’
