Mother of Dutch soap opera dies

Olga Madsen, known as the mother of Dutch soap opera, has died at the age of 64 from what the Telegraaf said is ‘a chronic lung disease’.

Madsen was in at the launch of Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden (good times, bad times), the Netherlands’ longest running soap opera which was first seen on Dutch television in October 1990.
She wrote many of the show’s most important story lines and is credited as discovering Antonie Kamerling, one of the Netherlands’ most successful actors and musical stars, who committed suicide last year at the age of 44.
Madsen also worked on soaps Onderweg naar Morgen and Goudkust as a director and contributed to a number of films, including De Tweeling and Bride Flight.
