Dutch central bank set to make a loss, no dividend for the state

The Dutch central bank DNB will probably post a loss in 2011 and will not pay a dividend to the state this year, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

The last time the central bank failed to make a profit was in 2003. The state is the bank’s only shareholder.
Finance minister Jan Kees de Jager’s 2012 spending plans included a €575m interim dividend from the bank. However, De Jager told MPs in a briefing on Tuesday that there is a serious risk the bank ‘will make a lower profit, or even a loss’ rather than the estimate.
Last year the dividend for the treasury was over €1bn.
