Turkey’s president to visit Wilders’ home town

Turkey’s president Abdullah Gul is to visit Venlo – home town of anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders – during a visit to the Netherlands next year, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

Gul has been invited to visit the Floriade garden show in the southern city by economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen, the paper said.
At the weekend, Wilders wrote an article in the Volkskrant saying Gul is not welcome in the Netherlands. Turkey and the Netherlands celebrate 400 years of trade relations next year but the celebrations should be cancelled because of the ‘Islamic regime’ in Turkey, Wilders said.
Gul will also be accompanied by a trade mission. The Floriade takes place every 10 years and will run from April 5 to October 7.
