The Dutch are getting fatter

The number of people considered obese in the Netherlands has almost doubled to 12% of the population over the past 20 years, according to new research from the national statistics office CBS.

Nevertheless, there are fewer grossly overweight people in the Netherlands than in other developed countries. On average, some 17% of people living in an OECD country are classified as obese.
The US tops the list. One in three Americans is considered obese, while Japan and South Korea have the fewest overweight citizens.
