Stop Occupy protestors benefits, says VVD in The Hague

Occupy protestors in The Hague should lose their unemployment benefit rights if they are not applying for jobs, according to city councillors from the right-wing VVD.

The party has asked city council executive Henk Kool to find out if the activists are receiving benefits.
‘They have to be constantly available for work,’ said VVD MP Malik Azmani, who supports the council plea. ‘But if they are writing job applications in their tents, that is fine by me.’

Meanwhile, a Christmas event that was to take place on the square outside the former stock exchange in Amsterdam will be transferred to the Dam in order to accommodate the Occupy camp, writes the Parool.
Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan has stated the camp ‘should be wound up around the time of the Saint Nicholas celebrations’ but has now refused to be drawn about a removal of the camp by the authorities.
The mayor will meet protesters, neighbours and shopkeepers next week.
