Free public transport day cancelled

Transport unions’ plans not to charge passengers in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague for using buses, tram and metro services on December 5 have been cancelled following talks with city officials, the Telegraaf reports.

The free travel day should have been followed by a 24-hour strike a week later. However, all industrial action has now been postponed for at least 14 days following talks between the unions and Amsterdam’s public transport executive Eric Wiebes.
The unions are campaigning about the government’s decision to force the three cities to put public transport services out to tender.
