Court says no case to answer against pro-paedophile group

The public prosecution department does not have to take legal action against the pro-paedophile lobby group Stichting Martijn because the plaintiff in the case does not have a proven connection to the group, Leeuwarden appeal court said on Monday.

The attempt to force a prosecution was brought on behalf of a three-year-old child who had been sexually abused in 2009. The move followed the department’s decision earlier this year not to prosecute the foundation.
However, since that case was first heard, Ad van den Berg, chairman of Stichting Martijn, has been jailed for three years for possessing vast amounts of child pornography.
This led the department to say on October 19 it is looking again at prosecuting the organisation.
Under the EU’s Treaty of Lanzarote, such organisations can be made illegal if their leaders have been found guilty of child sex offences.
MPs are also keen to see the organisation banned.
