Breach of trust threatens Ajax board

The supervisory board at Amsterdam football club Ajax threatens to fall apart over the appointment of Louis van Gaal as new general director, according to media reports on Sunday evening.

There is a ‘breach of trust’ between Johan Cruijff on the one hand and the other members of the board, Ajax chairman Uri Coronel said after a meeting of the club’s members’ council on Sunday.
The meeting was called to discuss the row over Van Gaal’s appointment, which was pushed through by the other four supervisory board members without involving Cruijff.
Sorry
Supervisory board chairman Steven ten Have told the meeting he is sorry at the way Van Gaal was brought in, but said it was unavoidable. Cruijff and Van Gaal have a history of conflict.
But Cruijff said after the meeting, which lasted almost five hours, that he cannot work with the other members of the board any longer. It is now up to the members what happens next, Cruijff told reporters before flying back to Barcelona.
A vote on the performance of the supervisory board is likely to take place on December 12 during the club’s AGM.
