Health inspectors call for digital patient records

By the end of 2013, every patient should have a digital health record which can be accessed by healthcare professionals nationwide, the government’s health service inspectorate said on Monday.

Patients should also have access to their records and should be able to check who has looked at them, the inspectors say in a report on IT in the care sector.
The report is noteworthy because in the spring, the government abandoned plans to bring in digital heathcare records following concerns in the upper house of parliament about privacy.
