Government is failing in combating child porn, says report

The government is failing to tackle sexual violence against children because it is too fixated on the cyber crime aspects, according to a report by the national human rights monitor Corinne Dettmeijer-Vermeulen.

The government will only seriously be able to tackle child pornography if it becomes part of a comprehensive approach to protecting children against sexual violence, the report states, according to the Volkskrant.
Justice minister Ivo Opstelten has welcomed the report. ‘We should not just focus on the pictures but on the underlying sexual violence,’ he is quoted as saying. ‘And that means the makers and the abusers.’
Most cases which come to court focus on the possession and distribution of child porn, rather than the production.
