A weekend of awards: film, musicals and music

Veteran performer Rob de Nijs picked up this year’s Edison award for the best male artist, beating dj Armin van Buuren, while Anouk took the best female performer title.

Racoon, from Zeeland, was best band and Krystl was best newcomer. The public’s prize went to Nick & Simon for their album Vier, while country singer Ilse DeLange produced the public’s favourite single Next to me
The Edisons are the oldest Dutch music prizes and were first awarded in 1960.
Also this weekend were the annual John Kraaijkamp musical awards. As expected, the feel good show Petticoat picked up the most awards – a total of seven. Lone van Roosendaal took the best female performer award for Zorro and Jon van Eerd won the male title for La Cage aux Folles.
Film
The Golden Calves, the Dutch equivalent of the Oscars, were presented on Friday evening.
On Friday night, Carice van Houten picked up her fifth Calf for her role as South African artist Ingrid Jonker in Black Butterflies. The film also took the best film award.
The best actor award went to Nasridin Dchar for his role in the road movie Rabat. In an emotional speech, Dchar called on the Netherlands to overcome its fear of foreigners.
