Diginotar hack almost closed down government websites

Last week’s hack of internet security firm Diginotar almost led to most Dutch government websites being blacked out, the NRC reported at the weekend.

Civil servants and IT experts are still working to repair the damage, which led to hundreds of security certificates being compromised.
In addition, the government has asked Microsoft to delay the introduction of a new security update for Windows for a week, to give officials time to give government systems a clean bill of health, news agency ANP reports.
