PostNL sales rise 3% in second quarter

PostNL, the postal delivery company created when TNT split into two, booked a 3% increase in turnover in the second quarter of this year, largely due to its foreign activities.

Turnover reached €1.024bn, compared with €992bn in the year earlier period. In Britain and Germany, sales rose sharply.
However, the shrinkage in the Dutch postal market reduced operating profit by one third on a year ago, figures released on Monday show. The company expects to deliver up to 10% fewer letters and parcels this year than in 2010.
PostNL also said on Monday it is reducing the book value of its 30% stake in TNT Express by nearly €400m to €1.58bn.
The TNT group split into two at the end of May and both PostNL and TNT Express now have their own listings on the Amsterdam stock exchange.
