House prices continue downward trend

House prices fell in July by an average 2.3% compared with the same month in 2010, figures from the central statistics agency CBS show on Monday.

The price of semi-detached houses fell the most, by 2.7%, with terraced house prices dropping 2.1%.
The fall was roughly the same in all the provinces, although in Groningen prices fell by 4.9%. Only Zeeland showed some improvement, with a rise of 0.8%.
Compared with June, prices showed a slight increase of 0.2%.
The figures follow forecasts on Friday by economists at the Rabobank that house prices are set to fall 2.5% in 2012 following a drop of 2% in 2011.
