Fed investigates ING Direct USA takeover

The Federal Reserve is investigating the takeover of ING Direct USA by Capital One Financial Corp, the Telegraaf reports.

Capital One bought the internet banking business in June 2011 for €6.2bn. ING was ordered to sell it as one of the conditions for receiving €10bn in state aid during the economic crisis.
The Federal Reserve wants to know if the takeover has advantages for customers and what the consequences will be for the stability of the US financial system. It has also extended the period in which objections can be made to October 12.
