Dutch may stay in South Sudan

Foreign affairs minister Uri Rosenthal is considering a Dutch contribution to a new UN mission to South Sudan, which became independent on July 9, news agency ANP reports.

The Dutch have been in Sudan since March 2006 as part of the UN peace-keeping mission and have around 30 military and police staff in the country. They are due to leave in October 2011.
It was hoped independence would end the conflict between North Sudan forces and rebels in the south, but the situation has hardly improved.
