Chemie-Pack declared bankrupt

Chemical storage company Chemie-Pack was on Tuesday declared bankrupt by the court in Breda, press reports say.

The company, scene of a massive fire in January 2011, has been expecting bankruptcy since April when it said it could no longer pay its bills.
The main difficulty for Chemie-Pack is a claim by the local water authority on the insurance money due for payment following the fire.
The authority says it is facing a bill of up to €14m for the clean-up and fire service activities.
Of the 42 people working at the company in Moerdijk, 22 have already been made redundant.
