Cash is still king for some supermarket customers

One in four supermarket customers is not prepared to make a permanent switch to electronic payments, making it unlikely that supermarkets will stop accepting cash, according to a new report by Deloitte.

Some 67% of supermarket customers always pay by direct debit or credit card, the research shows.
Deloitte says supermarkets will only be able to go cashless if the entire sector makes the move.
Retailers are keen to encourage the use of electronic methods of payment to reduce the risk of armed robberies.
