Wind turbines to finance forests?

The national forestry management institute Staatsbosbeheer is to develop wind parks alongside new forestry developments, Trouw reports on Tuesday.

One of the main obstacles to wind park development is public opposition – but planting woods may ease people’s fears, the organisation says. This is because within 15 years, the trees will have reached 15m high, hiding the turbines.
Staatsbosbeheer already has several plans under consideration.
The organisation’s budget is being cut by €20m next year making the search for alternative income crucial. It may also introduce parking fees in popular wooded areas, Trouw says.
