Dutch are most generous givers to charity

Nearly eight out of 10 people in the Netherlands will give money to charity this year, the highest percentage in Europe, according to research carried out for the Wall Street Journal.

The report shows 77% of the Dutch will give to charity. Sweden and Britain were second and third in the poll.
The Dutch are also the most generous givers. Some 4.7% will give over €1,001 – also the highest rate in the poll. Britain was second with 3.5%.
One in two Europeans questioned for the poll said they give to charity because it is part of their religion or philosophy to help.
