Crime victims more likely to get financial compensation

Over 9,000 victims of violent crime claimed financial compensation for physical or mental damage last year, an increase of 10% on 2009, the AD reports on Friday.

The average payout made was €2,300, according to figures from the national violent crime damages fund. The money went to victims of violent robberies, rape and physical attacks.
From next year, the relatives of people who are victims of crime will also be able to claim help to pay for therapy to help them cope with the crime, news agency ANP said.
