Palestinian leader Abbas thanks the Netherlands for support

Palestine authority leader Mahmoud Abbas was in the Netherlands for a short visit on Thursday, during which he met queen Beatrix and held talks with MPs and senators in the upper house of parliament.

The anti-Islam PVV and fundamentalist Christian SGP oppose the visit and boycotted the meeting.
During the meeting with MPs, Abbas thanked the Netherlands for its support in building up Palestine and emphasised the authority’s determination to build a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
If the ongoing peace talks fail to reach a solution, he said he will ask the United Nations to recognise a Palestinian state in September, website nu.nl reported.
The Netherlands has been involved in developing a legal system in the West Bank, including police officers, a public prosecution department and prisons.
