No European competition for football clubs with poor finances

Football clubs on the KNVB’s watch list because of their poor finances will not be allowed to take part in European competition from the 2012/13 season, spokesman Bert van Oostveen told BNR radio on Wednesday.

Uefa is introducing tougher rules on club financing to make sure clubs do not run at a loss.
Van Oostveen said the rules would have meant a number of Dutch clubs which played in Europe in the past would not have been allowed to do so, without naming names.
In May, the Telegraaf reported that 16 of the country’s 36 professional football clubs are under extra supervision by the football association because of their precarious finances.
Premier division sides Feyenoord, Roda JC, NEC, NAC, Excelsior, Vitesse and Willem II are on the list of endangered clubs.
Just five clubs – including premier division sides Twente and VVV-Venlo – are considered to have healthy finances.
