Museum ‘discovers’ portrait of Theo van Gogh

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on Tuesday announced it has ‘discovered’ a painting of Theo van Gogh by his brother Vincent.

New research has persuaded the museum that a self-portrait by Vincent from 1887 is actually a portrait of his brother.
The two brothers looked similar, the museum says, but this portrait has a nice ear, shaved cheeks and an ochre-coloured beard. Vincent had none of these.
It was always thought Vincent never painted his brother’s portrait.
